Based on a complaint filed by her estranged husband Adil Khan Durrani, the suburban Amboli police station opened a case against Rakhi Sawant under the pertinent provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Sawant was accused by Durrani of disparaging him by releasing their video on multiple websites.

According to reports, the latter had submitted a petition to squash the model's case from the previous year, which was about her outraging a woman's modesty. Sawant was also granted interim protection by the court, which has been extended till January 3.

On October 31, 2022, a formal complaint (FIR) was lodged against Sawant on the basis that she had displayed several recordings of the complainant and made defamatory statements. The video, which was shown to the media, was further alleged to be sexually explicit.

Her estranged husband had filed a lawsuit against her, alleging that she had leaked their personal video. The order was valid until December 7. Sawant's husband Adil Durrani attempted to intervene in her bail application, and the Dindoshi Sessions court gave her an interim plea.
