Nine Satyajit Ray films to be screened in Spain as part of a retrospective

Filmoteca de Catalunya, a film archive in Spain, in collaboration with ImagineIndia and Directorate of Film Festivals of India, has organized the screening of nine films of Satyajit Ray in its sixteen-day programme. The retrospective of Ray includes the screening of <em>Apu Trilogy (Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar), Charulata, Shatranj Ke Khilari, Jalsaghar, Sadgati, Bala, Mahanagar and Satyajit Ray</em>, a biopic on Ray by Shyam Benegal.

Ananth Mahadevan to adapt short story of Satyajit Ray

In his zest to pay a tribute to Satyajit Ray, actor-director Ananth Mahadevan has decided to adapt a short story <em>Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro</em> of the master filmmaker. “<em>Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro</em> follows the sojourn of a man, who after retirement, looking to keep himself engaged, is invited to be a storyteller of a rich businessman. It is a piquant situation he finds himself. Thereafter, Ray springs two magnificent surprises in the narrative,” quips Mahadevan. The director has thought of Amitabh Bachchan to reprise the role of the retired person.

Satyajit Ray's statue unveiled in Australia

Honouring him for his outstanding contribution in the field of cinema, a statue of Satyajit Ray was unveiled in Melbourne, in Australia. The statue was unveiled by award winning Australian film director Paul Cox in the presence of Indian Consul General S K Behera yesterday at Australia India Institute (AII) building. The official statement said the unveiling of the statue of Mr Ray, who is considered one of the pioneers of the 20th century Indian cinema, is a mark of honour to acknowledge his outstanding contribution to cinema.
