MUMBAI : 'Mirzapur' actress Shweta Tripathi has revealed that it is the story that draws her towards a project and that as an artiste, it is the instinct that is very important.

"Something that has drawn me to the kind of projects I do is the story. I don't see what the medium is or the platform. If the story attracts me....for example, I said yes to a show, they don't have a platform yet but I know that this is a story that I want to be a part of," Shweta told IANS.

She added: "Even 'Mirzapur', when I read the first two episodes I knew I wanted to be a part of this world because the writing was brilliant."

The actress, who took the spotlight with her stunning performance as 'Golu' or 'Gajgamini Gupta' in 'Mirzapur', said she had no clue that the crime-thriller would become so popular.

"I didn't know that 'Mirzapur' will become the success that it has become but as an artiste your gut and instinct are very important. So, that's how I choose. It is always quality. What will you do with the quantity?" said the 36-year-old actress.

Shweta says her characters have helped her evolve.

"And the end result is never in your hands. So, you give it your best, how much your best might be and you give it that much and that journey is the most important because all my characters make me a better person."

"They teach me so much emotionally and about growth. That is the process I am really really enjoying," Shweta said.

MUMBAI: Actress Shweta Tripathi says the finale of Mirzapur 2 had a huge impact on the whole team, and they ended up crying and hugging each other.

In the final episode of season two, Shweta's character Golu along with Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), kill Munna Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma).

"The scene that really impacted me was the last scene of season two. We were building that anger and frustration that we've been carrying, like 'aaj badla lenge'! We all were so high on emotions that we didn't eat. There was a moment when Ali and Munna (Divyendu Sharma) and I just hugged and cried. I think everybody on the set felt that emotion," Shweta said.

Talking more about the role, Shweta said: "I think it's the last scene of episode one where Golu makes her first kill. Three cups were kept in front of me with fake blood with mashed bananas and chunks of apples to create the feel of flesh and I had to target them. My real emotions surfaced when I went for it and a chunk of banana went straight into my eye."

Asked how the show will transform in the future, Rasika Dugal said her character "Beena will be a matriarch and Mirzapur will be a matriarchal society."

"I would love for that to happen. How would Mirzapur run if women run Mirzapur?" Shweta wondered during a conversation in "IMDb On the Scene".

MUMBAI: In a move that was telling of the patriarchal society it was set in, women had precious little to do as goons, guns and gore took centre-stage in the first season of Mirzapur. The second edition brings a necessary change in that regard — where Rasika Dugal's Beena takes charge of her life, Shweta Tripathi Sharma's Golu trades her books for guns to avenge her sister and boyfriend's deaths. Isha Talwar's Madhuri Yadav too unapologetically harbours political ambitions.

Point out to director Gurmmeet Singh how the female characters, at last, have agency, and he credits creator-writer Puneet Krishna for the development. "Puneet doesn't analyse if he is writing for a male or female character. For him, every character is a hero. Women in Mirzapur are equally tough because they have to surive there. It was not a conscious call to empower the women."

It's common for the prime players to be written off, thus adding to the show's plot twists. Singh exclaims, "I am scared that if I begin liking a character, Puneet will kill him in the next episode! We are not scared of killing the important players because we can have fun with those alive."

While the series is criticised for its excessive violence, director Mihir Desai asserts they practise self-censorship. "If a scene doesn't call for violence, we don't show it unnecessarily. This time, the characters have matured after their loss."

On October 30, author Surender Mohan Pathak told mid-day how he was enraged that the second season of Mirzapur had wrongly depicted his book Dhabba as an erotica (below). On Saturday, the makers issued an apology to Pathak on social media. The apology, signed by Krishna, stated that within three weeks, either the "unrelated voiceover" will be removed or the book cover will be blurred.

MUMBAI: Golu Gupta is one of the most loved characters of Mirzapur. The role has been played by Shweta Tripathi and has garnered a lot of love from fans all over the globe. In season 1, the role was that of a simple and shy girl, how this changed in season 2 was a treat to watch.

The sweet and innocent Golu was seen taking a gun in her hand to seek revenge for her love Bablu and sister Sweety. Well, this was indeed one of the finest performances of the actress, and there is no doubt that Golu and Mirzapur hold a very special place in her heart.

MUMBAI: As Guddu and Golu united on the poster of Mirzapur season 2, it set the tone for what will follow here on. Amazon Prime's tentpole show which returns on October 23."Mirzapur par badi Beti na sahi, choti raaj karegi.” announced the show's social media page. Ali's Guddu and Shweta's Golu are back, but from this point, there's no looking back!

Interestingly, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and Ali Fazal were a pillar of strength for each other on set as well. Because of being the two most primary characters carried forward from the last season, the onus of taking the narrative forward is on them too. The duo seeks revenge for the death of their loved ones, as evident from the trailer of the show.

For Shweta, Ali was a stronghold."The first time I fired a gun, I called him and yelled at him. He and Vikrant (Massey, Babloo from Mirzapur) had never mentioned how heavy the guns are or how difficult it is to use them. I eventually took training but eventually it's Ali who helped me out. I spoke at length to him and he gave me the confidence to train and perfect the part. A large part of the show is also preparing yourself emotionally for the action. Ali was a big support. He would make sure I am doing it perfectly. He would point out if something wasn't flowing naturally and we would rework thereon.”

Shweta adds that with new characters and actors joining in, it was a double blast working this time around."I miss Shriya and Vikrant so much. It was a journey we started together and here we are in the new season. This set has given me some of the best co-actors, the most fun colleagues, and memories of a lifetime. Mirzapur's writing keeps you on your toes. Golu in season 2 is nothing like season 1 and it's my team who helped me create her with some gusto and precision.”

MUMBAI: Actress Rasika Dugal enjoyed her avatar as the narrator of an audiobook series. She hopes her effort will bring a positive change in these grim times.

The Mirzapur actress has done the narrating assignment for “Uncovidable”, an audio series that revolves around a woman who is told to stay put for 21 days amid lockdown, as a result of the pandemic.

“The lockdown introduced me to a variety of audio content. It’s the best way to keep the mind occupied while doing housework! I have listened to both fiction and non-fiction podcasts, and was delighted when I was asked to be a part of one. ‘Uncovidable’ is quirky and lighthearted and I hope it will be a breezy listen in these difficult and grim times,” Rasika said.

Based on screenwriter and playwright Vekeana Dhillon’s real-life events, Rasika Dugal’s Uncovidable unfolds through unanswered voice messages she leaves on her best friend’s phone.

Apart from “Uncovidable”, the actress will soon be seen in web series “Mirzapur 2“. Season one ended with the death of two important characters — Bablu Pandit (Vikrant Massey) and Sweety Gupta (Shriya Pilgaonkar) — and the upcoming season is all about revenge. Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi) will lock horns with Kaleen Bhaiya and his son Munna Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma). The series goes live on October 23.
