MUMBAI : There were rumours aswirl since Wednesday that the noted Malayalam actress Aishwarya Lekshmi, who has become popular across Indiu after appearing in 'Ponniyin Selvan-1' is in a relationship with Tamil star Arjun Das.

The rumour mills worked overnight after Aiswarya shared a photo of hers with Arjun along with a love emoji. The photo of the actors became viral, with fans of both Aiswarya and Arjun going gaga over it.

Aishwarya, however, came out with a post on Instagram stating that they are just friends and not in love and that the picture was shared on social media not to make a relationship announcement.

"I didn't think my last post would get so much attention," wrote Aishwarya. "We happened to meet, took a photo, and posted it. There is nothing else going on here. We are friends."

She added: "To Arjun fans who have been messaging me since yesterday, calm down. He is yours."

Sources in the Malayalam film industry told IANS that this photo was reportedly shot on the sets of the Malayalam gangster movie 'King of Kotha' in which Dulquer Salman is playing the lead. Arjun Das and Aishwarya are also acting in the movie directed by Abhilash Joshi, son of Malayalam's hitmaker, Joshi.

Malayalam superstar and former Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi's son, Gokul Suresh, is also playng a major role in the movie.

MUMBAI: Ace director S. Shankar, who is known for films like 'Robot', 'I' and 'Nayak',is the latest person to praise director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, 'Ponniyin Selvan 1', which is based on the literary classic by eminent writer Kalki.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Shankar wrote: "'PS1' captivates. A quality Tamil historical film after years. Mani Ratnam sir's mastery in filmma'King' proven yet again (sic)."

He then went on to praise the film's technical team and said: "Hats off to cinematographer Ravi Varman's picturesque depiction. A R Rahman music riveting! Full three hours intrigue you for the sequel. Hail to the vast Army that made this epic!"

Shankar isn't the only one to be impressed by the magnum opus. Scores of people including celebrities like Telugu star Nagarjuna too have been impressed by the epic.The film, which released last Friday much to the delight of fans, has been receiving a thunderous welcome from audiences.

It grossed a worldwide sum of over Rs 80 crore on its very first day, thereby entering history books as the film with the biggest ever opening in Tamil cinema.

The film's brilliant story is based on the early life of prince Arun Mozhi Varman, who went on to be known as the great Raja Chozhan.

MUMBAI : Actor Jayam Ravi, who plays Arun Mozhi Varman, the titular role in director Mani Ratnam's critically acclaimed magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1', has disclosed that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth had called him after watching the film to congratulate him for his performance.

Taking to Twitter, Jayam shared: "That one-minute conversation made my day, my year and added a whole new meaning to my career."

"Thank you Thalaiva for your kind words and childlike enthusiasm. I'm overwhelmed, humbled and blessed to know you loved the movie and my performance", the tweet further read.

In the story, Jayam Ravi plays prince Arun Mozhi Varman, the younger brother of Aditha Karikalan and Kundavai. In fact, the story of 'Ponniyin Selvan' is basically Arun Mozhi Varman's story as it is his character that is also referred to as 'Ponniyin Selvan'.

Called by Mani Ratnam as his dream project, 'Ponniyin Selvan' is based on the literary classic by eminent writer Kalki.

The story is being presented in two parts. The first part of the epic movie was released on September 30.

The film, which has been receiving rave reviews, features a host of top stars including actors Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Parthiban, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prabhu and Prakash Raj.

Mumbai: Director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1', which is based on eminent writer Kalki's literary classic by the same name, has grossed a whopping sum of Rs 200 crore worldwide so far, its makers announced on Monday.

Lyca Productions, which has jointly produced the critically acclaimed superhit film along with director Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies, on Monday, along with a poster that said the film had grossed Rs 200 crore worldwide, tweeted: "Marching on and making history! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the audience who've been showering us with love! Catch #PS1 in theatres near you!"

The film has managed to rake in this huge amount in just three days. The film has already entered history books by becoming the film with the biggest ever opening in Tamil cinema.

The film grossed a worldwide sum of over Rs 80 crore on its very first day.

'Ponniyin Selvan 1', which had triggered huge expectations, released on Friday much to the delight of fans and received a thunderous welcome from audiences.

The film seems to have struck a chord with audiences of all age groups. The film has caught the attention of senior citizens in particular, as it is based on the literary classic by Kalki.

MUMBAI :Team India Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who is a big fan of eminent writer Kalki's literary classic 'Ponniyin Selvan', has described director Mani Ratnam's film, 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' as a "compelling watch".

Taking to Twitter to register his thoughts on the film, Ashwin wrote: "I don't know how many more times I will fall in love with this epic story 'Ponniyin Selvan'. Movies can't replace a good novel. However, the legend Mani Ratnam has made #PS1 a compelling watch."

He went on to say: "There are plenty of stars who have acted in this movie and added depth to some amazing characters that lived in my head who were brought to life by Karthi (Vandiyathevan), Trisha (Kundavai), Aishwarya Rai(Nandini) and Jayam Ravi (Arunmozhi) with grace and elan."

Apart from Ravi Ashwin, another cricketer Abhinav Mukund too chose to share his thoughts on the epic film.

Mukund tweeted: "Just walked out of #PonniyinSelvan1. Absolutely loved it. Can't wait for part 2. It is a magnum opus made beautifully with an excellent background score. Karthi was superb but all actors were cast really well."

MUMBAI: In 2021, Vijay's 66th film as lead actor was announced with the working title Thalapathy 66. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, it is the first Tamil film produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations and Paidipally's second Tamil film after Thozha (2016). It is one of the most anticipated and awaited films in the South. After shooting for many days, the team has finally wrapped up the first schedule. The makers also shared a BTS pic of Thalapathy Vijay with the director as they announced the wrap-up.

Thalapathy Vijay and the team have completed 25 days of a lengthy schedule with a major cast taking part in it. Rashmika Mandanna, the leading lady, was also part of the shoot. The film is being made on a lavish scale with grand production values and popular craftsmen are taking care of different crafts to make it a visual grandeur.

Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Sangeetha, and Samyuktha are playing prominent roles in the movie. The film is scheduled for a 2023 release.

According to credible sources, the film is a family drama, and Vijay will not be playing a double role in the film.

A few days ago, the pooja of this film was held at a private studio in Chennai. Director Vamshi, producer Dil Raju, Rashmika Mandanna, and Vijay were present. Sarath Kumar also attended the pooja. Sarath Kumar is going to act with Vijay for the first time in this film.
