I like writing for light-hearted and social cause related shows: Storywriter Sachin Mote

Storywriter Sachin Mote
Storywriter Sachin Mote has had a successful journey in the entertainment industry, but like others he too has had to go through a tough phase before seeing the greener pastures. Though the ups and downs have been a part of his life, he is today not just a well known name in the Marathi industry, but also in the Hindi TV industry. In a conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Sachin talks about his journey and more… When did you enter the entertainment industry? (Pauses) Well, I belong to Satara. I used to work in theatre after which I shifted to Pune and did a diploma course in Drama. After this I shifted to Mumbai in ’98. Here I started working with Sachin Goswami who used to direct Marathi commercial plays and I used to write for him. After this I became part of the Marathi reality show Fu Bai Fu. Later I started getting offers from producers of Hindi GECs. During this time I decided to work with Hats Off Productions. My first show with them as a writer was Mrs. Tendulkar for SAB TV after which I conceptualized and wrote the story of R K Laxman Ki Duniya with Aatish Kapadia and then Bh Se Bhade happened. I recently wrote for a Marathi film titled Pune Via Bihar, which is a love story of a Marathi boy and a Bihari girl. At the moment I am writing a Marathi show titled Pakke Shejari. Since you come from a Marathi background, does working on Hindi scripts get difficult for you? Not at all, I did work on a lot of Hindi plays while I was working in Marathi theatre. Plus, the Hindi that we use in the shows these days is the day-to-day colloquial Hindi which does not have an Urdu touch to it. Probably it might get difficult if I have to work on a Hindi historical or an Urdu show. Do you agree to the fact that TV writers have to face a lot of pressure due to the daily episode format? (Pauses) Yes, there is pressure when you are working on a daily soap but the work is divided when you have a team. And since I have a team, work gets easier. I am sure things must be different in the usual saas-bahu saga but I wouldn’t know, as I haven’t worked on any. Would you like to work on a saas-bahu drama? Not at all! I never ever took up saas-bahu’s even while I was doing Marathi TV and there is no chance. I like writing for light hearted and social cause-related shows. Did you ever have to face any difficulties in entering the industry? (Smiles) I did have to struggle to make my place here. Economic issues and no work is something that every struggler has to go through in this city and so did I. As it is I always wanted to be here as my entire family had an inclination towards Marathi theatre but they weren’t too keen on me getting into this field. However, they did not oppose when I decide to do so. In fact, I still remember the times when my mother used to ask me to bunk school and we used to go to watch movies. What’s up next? I would like to write for films. In fact, I already have two concepts in place but will go ahead with them only if I get to work with a good banner.
