Anushka Sen salutes Maid-turned-Stand Up Comic Dipika Mhatre!

MUMBAI: The actor draws inspiration from household help turned stand-up comedian Dipika Mhatre to essay Rani in Zee TV’s Apna Time Bhi Aayega

Starting 20th October at 7 PM, Zee TV is all set to present a new fiction show Apna Time Bhi Aayega that follows the journey of Rani, the spirited young daughter  of a head staff to the affluent Rajawat family of Jaipur, who refuses to be tied down by her humble roots and chooses to carve her own destiny on the steam of her own talent and intelligence after being raised by her Baba to dream big and chase after audacious goals.

While the debate of talent of the common man versus nepotism rages on in the country, the show makes a strong statement about the deep-rooted class system and questions its unwritten rulebook of ‘aukaat’ in our society, which almost curtails the chances of the lower strata in taking charge of their destiny and rising above their means.

Popular actress and social media star Anushka Sen will be seen playing the role of Rani. Committed to her craft and wanting to sink her teeth into the role, Anushka has turned to method acting and is keen to seek inspiration from some remarkable women who have just like her character, broken class or gender barriers of society, questioned stereotypes and emerged #AukaatKeBaahar to achieve something significant.

Through Zee TV's marketing and PR team, Anushka met and shared a few laughs with stand-up comedian, Dipika Mhatre who once served as a household help at various homes and sold imitation jewellery in Mumbai’s local trains for a living. While sharing her journey to becoming a name amongst the popular comedians of Mumbai, Dipika also expressed her determination to fight against the discrimination she often faced owing to her economical background. Via her journey, she told Anushka how she rose above them to emerge #AukaatKeBaahar.

A rather inspired Anushka Sen who couldn’t help but salute the powerhouse comedian shared, “Dipika’s journey and hurdles connected with me on a really deep level and I was absolutely awed hearing her story. Her will power to cross those boundaries that kept reminding her of her ‘aukaat’ or the background from which she hails, was truly an inspiration for me and I feel there I was a lot I learnt by just hearing of her sheer determination to break free. Dipika ji has almost lived Rani’s life and I don’t think there could have been a better person to inspire me to deliver a strong performance as Rani. In fact, I felt privileged to witness the comical side to her when she performed a few acts for me and noticed the pride she felt at achieving her dream. Dipika is an inspiration for women of all ages and I felt extremely fortunate to have met her. Her personality and  journey has given me the much needed inspiration  and I hope to be able to inculcate some of her qualities in my character as well.”

Watch Anushka Sen as Rani in Apna Time Bhi Aayega from 20th October at 7 pm only on Zee TV!
