Dolly Kumar, who was earlier seen in shows like CID, Na Aana Iss Des Laado and others, has bravely fought and overcome uterine cancer.
Recalling the days when she was gravely ill, she avers, “The doctors had actually given up hope on me. However, I was determined to live and had as many as four surgeries over five years.”
After overcoming the disease which is often considered to be a terminal one, Dolly decided to help others to tide over this dreaded disease. She has now associated with Kasturi Foundation, an NGO that aims at early detection of cancer and its prevention, awareness of the disease and financial support for the treatment of cancer to needy patients. “We have regular camps and have a van with a mammography machine. We charge a nominal fee for a checkup. The office has a full body cancer detection camp,” she informs.
Dolly will soon be participating in the Lavasa Women's Drive (LWD). According to the official LWD website they have, over the years, they have worked towards helping people to overcome the myth about women being not-so-good drivers and have supported various causes including the cause for cancer prevention through early detection.
Last year, the actress was inclined to participate in the drive, but sadly she didn’t get the requisite number of votes to qualify for it. But this year, she has got the needed votes and is looking forward to the rally scheduled for 24 February, 2013.
Secretary of Kasturi Foundation, Naina Shah will be her navigator in the rally. Clarifies the Lavasa Women’s Drive website, “Lavasa Women’s Drive is not a race. The winner is decided on the basis of Time x Speed x Distance formula.”
This rally aims at proving that women are good drivers.
“Women drive very safely,” Dolly exclaims.
Dolly, we wish you all the best and hope that you emerge a winner.
