MUMBAI: One of the most loved trends of the season is spin-offs!
We love watching certain shows, and it is a double bonanza when spin-offs are launched. Two such shows on television ruling the hearts of the audience are Yeh Rishtey Hai Pyaar Ke and Kundali Bhagya. There is no denying that we love watching connected universes.
The mother shows, Yeh Rishta Kya Khelata Hai and Kumkum Bhagya, are loved by viewers, and the characters of Kartik and Naira and Abhi and Pragya are a hit. Given the scenario, planting more core and lead charcters in a spin-off story can be a visual treat for the audience.
Yeh Rishtey Hai Pyaar Ke and Kundali Bhagya are similar in that both shows reestablish the concept of their mother shows and run parallel dramas in sync with them.
We asked a few readers their take.
A television show lover said, 'I love watching both the shows, and the spin-offs make me fall in love with the parallel storyline. The way the story shapes up and the interconnectivity is a visual treat for us.'
Another viewer was of the opinion that spin-off shows take away the charm of the original one. Pritesh Vadhan, a grocery store owner, said, 'I do not watch too many shows, but I am a fan of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. However, I do not watch its spin-off, and I think the charm of the original show is magical.'
Vandana Sharma, a media professional said, 'It is actually very interesting, and I like watching both the shows. Also, when characters have crossovers with their parent shows, the drama gets all the more interesting.'
Spin-offs are popular even in the digital space. ZEE5 has already launched Ishq Aaj Kal, a spin-off of Ishq Subhan Allah. It is also working on spin-offs of Jamai Raja and Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega.
