MUMBAI: South Africa's Dewald Brevis has officially joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025, stepping in as a replacement for left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh. With seven overseas players already in their squad from the mega-auction, CSK had room to sign an international player, and they opted for the 21-year-old batting talent to strengthen their struggling middle order.

Brevis, previously part of Mumbai Indians, played 10 IPL matches, scoring 230 runs at a strike rate of 133.72. Despite flashes of brilliance, he went unsold in the recent auction after MI chose not to retain him. However, with CSK currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from seven games, his addition brings much-needed firepower to their lineup.

Nicknamed “Baby AB” for his style reminiscent of AB de Villiers, Brevis has featured in 81 T20 matches globally, amassing 1787 runs with an impressive strike rate of 144.93. He’s expected to slot in at No. 3, potentially replacing either Vijay Shankar or Rahul Tripathi, and will likely be given the freedom to play aggressively, much like Ajinkya Rahane in past seasons.
Brevis joins CSK at a critical juncture, with hopes high that he can help spark a turnaround under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
