In an exclusive interview with Lara Dutta for the release of her new web series, Ranneeti - Balakot and Beyond on JioCinema, the versatile actor opened up on why more mature female actors are not getting meatier parts, including lead characters, as opposed to when she had entered the industry.

Lara Dutta said, “I think dheere dheere ye shayad pehle ka jo trend tha who dheere dheere shayad badalta lekin itni jaldi nahi hota. Jaise aaj aap dekhenge toh Neena Gupta ji bohot behtereen kaam kar rahi hai, Zeenat Aman ji apna wapas comeback kar rahi hai, Ratna Pathak Shah ji is doing some incredible work on screen and they’re playing women their age and they’re portraying it beautifully. So today for the first time in our country, women in their 60s and 70s are being seen and represented as leading ladies on screen. They’re not being seen just as the woh jo Maa jo sab kuch tyaag kar sirf apne bacho ke liye jee rahi hai ya who horrible saasu maas jo apne daughter-in-law ki zindagi barbad karne mein tuli hui hai. So I think that representation has changed and today women are seeing, for the first time, are seeing themselves on screen, they’re seeing themselves on screens. They’re seeing somebody there who they identify with, with who they are. And I think that’s amazing.”
