KOLKATA: Regional general entertainment channel Aakash Aath announced their new mega serial, Dipabalir Satkahan, at a press meet recently. The story is based on eminent author Samaresh Majumdar’s bestselling novel Satkahan.

The press meet was graced by Samaresh Majumdar; Susanta Basu, Director of the serial; Ashok Surana, Producer of Dipabalir Saatkahan; Eshita Surana, Director, Aakash Aath; and also the star cast including debutante Soumi Chatterjee, Bodhisatwa Mazumdar, Tulika Basu, and Lopamudra Sinha.

“Dipabalir Satkahan is a story about a woman ‘Dipabali’ and her struggle against all the odds of the society. Set in the picturesque North Bengal amid lush green tea gardens and sparkling rivers, Satkahan traces the-then political turbulence and the socio-economic structure of the period and the fight for survival of a young lady Dipabali. This masterpiece by Samaresh Majumdar is much ahead of its time and has relevance in the present day society too,” read a statement.  

Speaking about the show, Eshita Surana said, “Being a woman I would like to see that in today’s time, women dream about self – independence, become successful in every sphere of life. Let success be within your hand. Let her remove the darkness by overcoming the tussle between truth and reality and show a new light. From this thought we decided to adapt Samaresh Majumder's novel Satkahan in modern context. We approached the author and he gladly accepted our request.”

She further added, “And we now have Smaresh Majumdar writing for Aakash Aath. He has reintroduced the character of Dipabali, the protagonist, in the contemporary world. The struggle of today’s women will be reflected through Dipabali’s story.”

Dipabalir Satkahan will go on air from 3rd December, 2018, every Monday to Saturday from 7 pm. Screenplay is by Sayan Chowdhury and Sanchari Das. Other actors who will also be seen in the show include Biplab Dasgupta, Indrajit Deb, Lopamudra Sinha, Mausumi Kar Chatterjee amongst others.
