Zanjeer may have failed to set the cash registers ringing but that hasn’t dented Priyanka Chopra one bit. Today there is no stopping this girl. From juggling a film career here in India to trying to make it big as a singer internationally, Priyanka is perhaps in the busiest phase of her life. Tellychakkar.com spoke to this lovely actress on films, music and everything in between. Excerpts: Tell us how different is your role in Krrish 3? Krrish 3 is an extension of my character from the earlier movie. In Krrish, my character ends with me being taken to meet Krrish’s (Hrithik) grandmother while in this film I am married. So we start the film with me as Hrithik’s wife. And talking about how different my character is, it has a duality. I am a wife who turns evil at times. So along with my good side, my character also has a bit of evil concealed within her. To understand my evil side, you will have to watch the movie. There are a lot of characters in the movie. Considering that how big would you say is your role in this movie? Big or small doesn’t matter to me. I am the heroine of the movie. I am not just a damsel in it. Usually in action films our heroines don’t have much to do. But that is not the case in Krrish 3. For me the beauty of the film lies in the fact that I have a pivotal role. Also what excites me about the entire movie is the whole sci-fi genre that is basically Rakeshji’s vision. He is the pioneer of this genre in India. So for me it’s a big honour to be a part of such a sci-fi action film. So what about the rift with Kangana? Those are silly rumours. Kangana and I really get along well. We are actually friends. We have worked in Fashion together. In this movie, I have only two scenes with her together. And both of our characters have been well defined. So there is no such thing as one having a big role and another having a small one. What challenges did you face while playing the role of Hrithik’s wife? (Laughs out loud) No challenges. This was a real fun film. Hrithik did all the major work. He used sweat a lot while doing those stunts while I used to just sit and chill. Zanjeer bombed at the box-office. In hindsight, would you say it was a mistake to sign the film? (Vigorously nods her head sideways) A lot of my films haven’t done well but I will never turn around and say they were mistakes of my life. If I decide to do a film, it’s my independent decision alone. Nobody has ever forced me to do a film. Also every film has its destiny and actors are very small part of the movie. We are given way too much credit. A film is made by more than 200 people who collaborate on various aspects of the. So I wouldn’t say Zanjeer was a mistake. Yes, it may have failed but it definitely was not a mistake. You have embarked on a singing career as well? How do you plan to take it forward? For me, my music is an extension of my creativity. I am an actor but also a creative soul. I am handling two careers and that’s very difficult for me because I don’t get time to sleep and I am shuttling between LA to Mumbai every month. I am a successful star in India but I am a new comer in music and they are completely two different spheres for me. Just like how it took almost 4 years to understand what acting is all about, it will take some time understand and cement myself as a singer too. Though I am happy that my songs have done well, the kind of musician that I want to be will take some more time. If it’s difficult handling two careers, why are you pushing yourself so hard? Why this sudden need to make it big as a singer abroad? Tell us the real reason? (Thinks) See, I have not taken time out of my movie career to focus on singing. Like in the last two years, I have finished about 7 -8 films and also completed my album. So the reason why I am doing this is because I like doing creative things. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. But I feel alive when I am doing things that are different. I am not somebody who will follow a path given to me. I want to be a game changer. I want to do things that no one else has done before. I don’t know of anyone who first became an actor and then a musician. Jennifer Lopez was a singer before she became an actor. So you see there is nobody right now. It’s completely new. I want to sing playback for another heroine. I want to make movies. I want to star in them. I want to write a book. I want to do all sorts of creative things. I believe when you are young it is then when you can do such things. That’s the real reason why I am trying hard. Now that you have made your presence felt internationally, does Priyanka have any plans of entering Hollywood? Hollywood…Well, yes if it happens. I don’t plan things. (smiles)
