I never said Katrina shouldn't marry Ranbir, clarifies Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone

A statement attributed to Deepika Padukone made sensational gossip headlines a couple of days back when a leading city tabloid published a news item about Deepika Padukone jokingly advising Katrina Kaif not to marry Ranbir Kapoor in a behind-the-scenes video of an award function.

The said statement was alleged to have been made at Star Guild Awards. Almost immediately, the news piece was carried by all leading portals and retweeted multiple times till the story started trending. Yours truly didn't carry the story for we certainly had an inkling that there was more gossip than truth in the statement. After all, Deepika had smilingly told us that if the engagement rumours of Ranbir and Katrina were true, she would like to wish the couple all the best. Considering that Dippy had made such a statement, we found it a bit too hard to believe that she could say otherwise a few minutes later at the same event.

As it now turns out, the actress was indeed misquoted and to a great measure. The actress was a part of a behind-the-scenes video where the anchor of the show asked her if she were to be Katrina Kaif what her New Year resolution would be. To this question, Deepika answered, “If I was Katrina Kaif, I would marry Ranbir.”

Unfortunately, the story that came out reflected an entirely opposite version of Deepika's statement making her look like a villain in Ranbir-Katrina love story.

The usually unflappable actress was pretty irate at the happenings and showed her miffed side to us yesterday at Screen Awards. When we asked her if she had indeed made the statement about Katrina, Deepika said, “One of your colleagues misquoted me. I never said anything like that and I am not going to say anything else in this matter.”

Well, yellow journalism is sometimes harmful, we say.
