Actor Ishaan Mazumder, who is essaying the role of Nanda Sen in Srijon Bardhan’s debut film ‘Postmaster’, says that he was hesitant to essay the said role.
“To tell you the truth, when I was offered the role of Nanda Sen I got scared,” he said to Tellychakkar.com when he was asked to share his feelings about portraying the primary character in the film.
Ishaan, who was present at the music and trailer launch of the film, added, “I got scared mainly for three reasons. First, Postmaster is one of the famous short stories by the legend Rabindranath Tagore. Second, earlier a film on the same story was made by the renowned director Satyajit Ray. And lastly, my character was played by the talented actor Anil Chatterjee. In front of all these legends, I am none.”
So, finally how did you prepare yourself for the role? He replied, “I asked the director for a workshop. I also realized that I needed to put on some weight."
“To gain weight, I had stopped doing weight lifting exercises and started gorging on excessive sweets. I also used to sleep a lot in the afternoon which I usually avoid. It was fun following this routine. However, I was well aware that when the time to reduce the weight will come I will have to work extra hard, “ he added with a laugh.
Postmaster was featured at the Delhi International Film Festival in 2015. How did it feel to gain such accolades at the beginning of career? “I was overwhelmed. Some of the jury members had appreciated my performance. Now, I am excited to know how the audience will react.”
Postmaster is the actor’s first film to release. He is also part of the late Bappaditya Bandopadhyay’s Sohra Bridge 2 which is yet to release.
Good luck, Ishaan.
Also starring Pujarini Ghosh, Biswajit Chakraborty, Tulika Basu, Biplab Chatterjee, Kalyan Chatterjee and others, the film is slated to hit the screens soon.
