Shah Rukh Khan awarded the International Icon of Indian Cinema; makes Mohanlal and Mamootty dance
Shah Rukh seems to be the favourite Khan of the South Indian film industry. We have seen him attend innumerable award shows on various South Indian channels regularly. And among the plethora of award functions that SRK graces, Asianet’s award night seems to be his hot favourite. When Ra.One had released, King Khan was shipped to Dubai for Asianet’s award night where he charmed one and all with his grace and ready wit. On Saturday too, it was time for an encore as the cr?me de la cr?me of Malayalam movie industry landed at Meydan Hotel & Grand Stand in Dubai for Ujala Asianet Film Awards. But the biggest star of the night was undoubtedly Shah Rukh Khan who was chosen as the International Icon of Indian Cinema by the viewers of Asianet. And honouring him with the award was two of the biggest superstars of Malayalam cinema- Mohanlal and Mamootty. Shah Rukh himself was overwhelmed at receiving this honour and later wrote on his Twitter profile: "To be given so much love by Mammootty & Mohanlal sir. Felt like crying receiving so much kindness from artists who inspire me to be an actor". In return, Shah Rukh entertained the crowd with his Lungi Dance. Draping himself in a trademark Kerala style lungi, the superstar got both Mamootty and Mohanlal (both wearing lungis) to join him on stage for the performance. Mohanlal also later sang an entire song from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge much to the surprise and delight of Shah Rukh Khan. Before Shah Rukh mania took over, it was Shankar Mahadevan who enthralled the crowd with his chartbusters. In its 16th year, Asianet awards are presented annually to recognize and honour the artistic and technical excellence in Malayalam film industry with over 30 award categories.
