South Indian actress Payal Ghosh to make her Bollywood debut opposite Vir Das

Payal Ghosh
With her graceful acting and sensuous good looks, Payal Ghosh has managed to carve a niche for herself in the South Indian movie industry. A popular figure in Telugu and Kannada film world, Payal scored her brownie points with the 2009 Telugu hit Prayanam. Now this Bengali beauty has her eyes set on Bollywood and will soon be seen making her debut in a romcom opposite funny man Vir Das. Talking about her role, Payal says, “The producers saw my movie Prayanam and they liked my acting in it. I was called for a few screen tests and shoots which went off really well. That's how I bagged this role." Payal will be seen essaying a homely, girl-next-door role in the yet untitled movie. "I am playing this simple Gujarati girl who is the love interest of Vir Das who is a Punjabi. So it's a Punjabi-Gujarati love story," says Payal. To Payal's good fortune, the movie has given her a chance to work with two veteran actors of this industry namely Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor. "I play Pareshji's daughter while Rishiji is Vir's father. I have a lot of scenes with Pareshji and I think to say that he is amazing would be an understatement. He is really nice, genuinely helpful and extremely down-to-earth in spite of being a huge star. He made me really comfortable," says Payal and adds that she will soon be meeting the now actor-turned-politician when they resume shooting for movie. The presence of two senior actors on sets also meant that both Payal and Vir had to keep a check on their playful pranks. “Vir is very jovial though because of Pareshji and Rishji's presence we had to keep our pranks under control," reveals Payal. For someone who has played glamorous characters down south, Payal is looking to act in more simple roles here in Bollywood. Says Payal, "I have played the glamorous roles in past but here in Bollywood I am looking to essay the simple, girl-next-door roles. I want to make a place in the heart of Indian audience.” Does that mean she wouldn't don a bikini or kiss on screen? "Well I won't wear a bikini unless it is a Dhoom 4 and as far as kissing is concerned, I will cross that bridge when it comes," says a winking Payal. Well, we hope that happens soon because Bengali beauties have always lent that extra oomph onscreen.
