We have not made Tere Bin for numbers: Producer Naresh Borde

Producer Naresh Borde

Naresh Borde, a familiar figure in the Marathi industry, has moved towards the Hindi GEC space with Tere Bin on &TV under his production house Shri Siddhivinayak Chitra.

In a freewheeling chat with us, he shared his journey with us…

Excerpts:

Tell us something about your background.

I have worked on a lot of Marathi shows. Tere Bin is my second show in the GEC space. As I was into film distribution under the banner of Shri Siddhivinayak Chitra and also working on a few shows, so I made my way into Hindi TV. We had the longest running show Char Divas Sasuche on ETV Marathi (Colors Marathi). It was on-air for 12 years and wound up recently. Furthermore, I have closely worked on Paanchvi Manzil, along with my father who was also a producer.

This is your second show on Hindi GEC, was there any pressure before launching the show?

Not at all. Tajurbe on Doordarshan was my first Hindi show. At that time, Hindi GEC was not flourished and also there were fewer channels. I believe in quality of work rather than quantity, so prefer doing maximum two shows together. It took us about seven to eight months to work on the concept of Tere Bin.

Apart from producing, any other aspect that you look after?

I also look after the creative part of the show. Tere Bin was the idea of my co-producer Atul Ketkar. He is the brain behind the show. We are also planning a new show, but it is too early to talk about it.

Since there is already too much competition, how will you make sure that your show stands out?

Tere Bin is a complex love story. It doesn’t fall in the genre of the shows that are currently running on Indian TV. Content decides whether a story is good or bad.

Numbers or content- What is your aim?

I think if the content is good, numbers will come. We made Tere Bin not for numbers but the way it is presented. It is a to-the-point story without drama. We have a bank of one to two years of episodes and then will see… but would not drag the show unnecessarily.

A lot of Bollywood stories are being made into shows, one story that you would want to produce...

I don’t wish to make any. I would want to show audience something new and not remakes. Why bore viewers with same content!

Any TV actor you wish to work with?

My script decides the actor. If I feel an actor fits the bill of the character, I select them.

Why do you think Gaurav Khanna and Shefali Sharma fit the characters of Akshay and Vijaya?

I think both Gaurav and Shefali are talented actors. We wanted a woman, who is modern and independent for Vijaya and when we auditioned Shefali, she was perfect for the role. Same goes with Gaurav… we wanted a guy who could portray two characters, the younger college-going boy and a mature individual post the leap. He suited both the roles completely.

Super natural drama are ruling TV, do you plan to make any?

No, the concept is doing wonders on TV but our creative sensibility doesn’t match that concept.

Which TV show is your favourite?

I haven’t watched TV in the last two to three months, so can’t talk about it.

Any producer you’re inspired from?

My father Baburao Borde.

What is your aim as a producer?

I want to create good content and entertain viewers.

How different are you from the other lot?

You should ask my unit and co-stars!
