In the 90s when television soap experience was novice to Indian audience, shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki ran for years together, entertaining masses episodes after episodes. But in recent times, with new GECs cropping up and production houses mushrooming, availability of content and choices increased manifold, leading to cut throat competition. In a business governed by ratings, being in the lower side on the TVT chart would mean shows being pulled off air within months of their launch. To jot down examples of such shows would mean emptying our ink. But still, amidst this bleak scenario, there are shows which have managed to make a mark and have successfully aired more than 1000 episodes. In the year 2012, epic shows like Uttaran (Colors, FilmFarm India), Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (SAB TV, Neela Telefilms), Balika Vadhu (Colors, Sphere Origins), Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus, Director’s Kut) achieve the above feat and there are also few shows in the year 2013 that have entered the elite 1000 episode club. Let’s have a look… Pavitra Rishta (Balaji Telefilms): This Balaji Telefilms’ show has had to go through a lot to reach this mark. The story initially started with Archana (Ankita Lokhande) meeting Manav (Sushant Singh Rajput/ Hiten Tejwani) then getting married and having babies. Next, their babies grew up and the couple got them married. They too made babies and now their kids are all set to get married on this show. Thus, this soap has had to go through a lot of leaps to reach the 1000 mark on 15 March. Interestingly, Ankita Lokhande plays her own grandchild in the show now. FIR (Edit II Productions): Inspector Chandramukhi Chautala aur unke sena and their unique way of solving criminal cases have managed to tickle the funny bones of the audiences for a long while now. The 1000 mark is definitely a hard earned number for the makers of this show. They reached the mark on 5 September. CID (Fireworks Productions): This longest running suspense thriller show on Sony Entertainment Channel has managed to make its place in the hearts of the audiences and ACP Pradyuman, Daya and Abhijeet have become iconic characters today.
