Did you ever think that your team would complete 18 years on the show?
No. And neither did B P Singh, who conceived the show. We had great TRPs in the beginning. There was a time when we had a little slump but Sony TV was there to support us so it was a hassle-free journey. It is successful because of 18 years of visibility and the cast. The actors have connected really well with the audiences, and their characters have become stronger with time. I think god is watching this show…
If a show continues for a long time then monotony sets in, but in your case, that’s not the case…
We would also get bored if we were shooting in a single room. But we had different stories, artists, locations and everything is unique. This is CID’s USP …that we do different things every day.
How has this role personally impacted you in your life?
If I would have not selected this role, then no one would have known me. Initially, my parents, friends and classmates used to know me… but now the entire world recognizes me. Just because of this character and show. So whatever I have today is because of CID.
One crime you would like to eradicate from our country?
Rape.
Why was there no episode on this topic in CID?
Rape is a crime so we can’t make it a subject of entertainment. I would not take any show’s name, but depicting such cases means you are provoking and instigating. Every man has a grey shade so don’t stimulate it. I personally feel that it should not be glamourized and sold as TRP-gainers.
What bonds you, Aditya (Srivastava) and Shivaji (Satam) as a team?
There is a lot of understanding between us. Our wavelength matches with one another. We also respect one another.
What do you have to say about the real CID team?
They are doing their work. Crime detection is not easy at all. So hats off and a big salute to them.
