These days, people don't have the patience to make their relationships work: Ronit Roy

Ronit Roy

Balaji Telefilms is all set to launch their much talked about project Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar (IKNMP) on Sony Entertainment Television. The show will see a comeback of actress Pallavi Kulkarni on television and also the return of Ronit Roy to daily sagas.

Having made his mark in Balaji soaps in varied characters as Mr Bajaj, Mohit Virani, Aparajit Deb and Dharamraj, Ronit will play Dr Neil in IKNMP.

Tellychakkar.com got talking with the talented actor about his show, life, children, divorce and a lot more. Excerpts-

Back with Balaji Telefilms after long?

Yes, Ekta (Kapoor) knows the kind of shows and characters that will suit me. So when she called me, I readily accepted the offer. I have been associated with Balaji for the last 10 years and after a four-year gap,  I am again doing their show and it surely feels great to be back.

You have portrayed some really powerful characters on Balaji shows, can we expect another one in IKNMP too?

To be honest, I completely trust Ekta’s vision. Balaji has a great working standard. I actually know that the creatives would have churned out a great character for me. I think nobody enjoys playing a wimp and I am lucky that I have always been offered power-packed roles.

You are also returning to a daily fiction format as a lead after long?

I have come to a stage where I don’t care about lead roles. I do not hold aspirations of being a star, I thank god every day and do my work. As an actor, I will keep doing good roles. And I don’t even think producers would risk their money on me in casting me as a lead in movies.

Tell us more about the show?

In our fast paced life we move ahead and at one point stop to wonder what all we have left behind. This show is about a couple who has been separated for over 15 years, but come together for their children’s sake. How things change between them will be for the viewers to see. There is so much we regret, so much we miss. And I also feel that if there is love and connection, you always tend to go back in times and try soaking in those memories.

Talking about leaving behind things, what is the one thing that you regret in life?

I don’t think I can ever find things that I have lost. I don’t even care about the materialistic things, which I have lost a lot but I missed the growing up of my eldest daughter (from his first marriage). I wish I could have been there, but now we are WhatsApp buddies and I hope that for the rest of our lives we carry on without any lochas.

What kind of a father are you in real life?

I am quite a chilled-out father and my children listen to me out of respect and not fear. I don’t believe in denying anything to them. Many suggest that technology should be kept away from young children but I encourage my children although all the passwords of their gadgets remain with me (laughs).

Will the show provide some teaching grounds for people who are going through a rough phase in marriage?

I don’t think a show is made to do public service or provide learning as they are made for entertainment. If somebody can take away something positive from the show, it's welcome but we cannot thrust our beliefs into anyone. But the fact remains that shows are inspired from real life and vice versa.

Why do you think the divorce rates have grown in our country?

Personally I believe that people today do not have the patience required to carry on a relationship. Today, people don’t even think about children and prefer going for divorces than solving their issues. A death of a parent or separation can cause lot of troubles to children as they suffer the most.

What is going at the movie front?

I have Guddu Rangeela and Ugly, that will release soon. I am going through some movie scripts and have liked a few, let’s see how things shape up. But at the moment, I am bringing myself into living this character

All the best, Ronit!
