Channel–Producer at loggerheads; Future of CID gloomy?

CID, the longest running cop based show seems to have hit a rough patch with the channel and production house having creative differences.
CID

CID has been an iconic show, and was in fact the first series to define boundaries and set standards for a cop-based investigative show on Indian television. It’s been at its best for more than 18 years now, and the rage and fan-following for the show is actually visible in people of all ages!!

Produced by Fireworks Productions for Sony TV, it has been a trend-setter we can say, and to emulate and work on a show of the class of CID has been impossible, at least till now!!

However, the long-running weekend series has been at the receiving end for some time now, with news of it going off air creating a buzz few months back. Also, we get to hear of enormous creative differences prevailing between the channel and the production house, in pertaining to its functioning!

Recently, there have been reports of CID getting into its first revamp zone after entertaining masses for 18 years!!

We hear that the creative differences between the channel and production have indeed left the future of the show in dark. And the fact is that the solution to it has not yet been derived.

A credible industry source confided in us few days back that the channel was in fact thinking of getting in a new producer to carry forward the legacy of CID.

OMG!!

Yes, as per the reports we have received, the channel apparently held a meeting in a lush hotel in Mumbai few days back, with the leading actors and pillars of the show, Shivaji Satam (ACP Pradhyumn), Aditya Srivastava (Abhijeet) and Dayanand Shetty (Daya) to know whether they would continue with the show if there was a new Producer brought in.

Our source gave out this valuable information that, “All the three actors refused to continue, given the proposed change. And this actually came as a dampener to the thoughts of the channel to keep CID surging ahead with a new Producer.”

Now, as per the latest that we hear, the channel and production house are likely to meet for a meeting in the next few days, and the result of the meeting will be crucial for CID’s future.

Our source further opined, “There are lot of possibilities that can crop up in the meeting. The worst scenario will be of the long-running cop based show going off air. Also, if the two parties arrive at a creative solution, the show might get a time shift to an evening slot over the weekends. However, all these are just probabilities as of now, with nothing yet decided.”

When contacted, ace actor Shivaji Satam though denied the occurrence of such a meeting and said, “All is fine in CID. We are shooting as we do always. So I do not know from where the problems have been arising.”

We tried our best to touch base with Aditya and Daya, but could not get lucky.

We tried contacting Producer B.P. Singh and sent out a text explaining our query, but did not get revert.

We also dropped a personal text to Danish Khan, EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, but did not get revert till the time of filing the story.
