Actress Maleeka R Ghai was supposed to essay her 'career best' role in Producer Ila Bedi Dutta's upcoming Zee TV show, titled Lajwanti.

The actress was roped in to play the role of a wanderer, who is a popular gypsy dancer.

As reported earlier by Tellychakkar.com, the team of Lajwanti is presently shooting in Punjab  for the show.

The news coming in is that Maleeka had a mighty fall while rehearsing for one of her dances, and has sustained a torn ligament on her right knee.

Maleeka is now heading off to Delhi to be with her mother and nurse her leg with adequate medication and rest.

A source associated with the show told us, "Maleeka has been advised complete bed rest for two weeks. She is presently advised to wear a knee belt to avoid any movement on the knee. The actress was pretty excited about this role, as it was a significant one in the story line. But it looks as though she will not be able to continue playing a part."

We also hear that the channel and maker are on the lookout for an immediate replacement for Maleeka, as they have scheduled the shoot of an extensive dance sequence involving the banjaran character in Patiala in the next few days.

Shared the actress, “Since I did not want to disrupt the shoot as the makers want to build on a bank, I decided to move out of the show. With the character indulging in some sing-dance sequences ahead, I did not want to strain my legs further.”

Sounding upset about the incident Maleeka further added, “I was so excited about this project and now I am left in terrible pain and sadness, with the show slipping out of my hand. Thankfully the producers have been sweet and we parted on a good note. Now I am heading off to Delhi to my mom to rest and recover completely.”

We also tried buzzing Producer Ila Bedi for a confirmation, but did not get her on line.
