It was a day of farcical flip-flops for Mallika Sherwat at the launch of Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon ki Mallika. First, the sex siren outrageously described herself as a middle class woman when host Rohit Roy handed her a bottle of wine. “Door rakho yeh cheez mere se. I don’t drink. I am a middle class woman with middle class thoughts.”
While the audience cringed at this fake display, we questioned her on her hypocritical statement. “If as a middle class woman you don’t see anything wrong in wearing a bikini, then how can you say that drinking is wrong?” While our question elicited applause from Rohit Roy, Mallika looked like a bundle of nerves at loss for words. Finding herself cornered, Mallika immediately changed her stance and said, “I never said middle class. I said I don’t drink wine because it is not healthy. Other middle class women can drink the whole bottle if they want.” We didn’t see any point in pursuing the topic any further and left it at that.
Earlier in the evening, a demurely dressed Mallika was pampered with gifts that her contestants had given her out of ‘love.’ One of them included a live lamb that made a surprise appearance at the five star hotel where the event was being held. Mallika mollycoddled the lamb so much so that the poor creature bleated out of fright much to the disgust of the audience who were left looking at their feet out of sheer embarrassment. Mallika though didn’t seem to mind and was soon inundated with questions about her favourite Narendra Modi. “I am ready to do anything for Narendraji,” proclaimed Mallika and also added that she was not interested in Rahul Gandhi.
Billed as a reality dating series, Bachelorette India promises to help Mallika in finding her dream date through the show. But the lady herself was tight lipped about marrying the man who she will finally end up dating. When comparisons were drawn between herself and Rakhi Sawant, Mallika said “Rakhi’s show was about marriage. Mine is about dating. I am not giving any false promises of marriage. I am not going to cheat people.” Thankfully, Mallika was honest about marriage, at least.
The trailers of the reality series show excessive violence and abuses being traded between the contestants immediately reminding one MTV’s Roadies. Mallika, though, remained quite unmoved and even quipped that she is okay with the fights as long as they are fighting for her. (Really now!)
The lady also waxed eloquent about Indian men and Indian culture. Mallika said Indian men are better than foreign men because they connect with their women on a spiritual level. “Foreign men are always in a rush while Indian men give me space and take time to understand and know each other.” She however was also quick to point out that Indian men are very possessive about their ladylove and often want them to cut down on their skimpy clothes and assert their decision. “I see their possessiveness as a negative trait,” said Mallika.
The actress, who once famously made a statement that ‘Men like talking to my breasts,’ however turned coy when we asked her to comment on pre-marital sex. “I would say the amount of physical intimacy that is appropriate while dating depends on the comfort level of the girl, as much as the girl is comfortable with.” Now that’s a really diplomatic statement, Mallika. Don’t you think?
Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon ki Mallika begins on 7th October, every Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on Life OK.
