Producer Saurabh Tewari and actress Shilpa Shinde lock horns over Daya Mai's character in Do Dil Ek Jaan

Saurabh Tewari and Shilpa Shinde
It seems bad blood has broken out between Shilpa Shinde and the maker of her last Life OK show Do Dil Ek Jaan (Nautanki Telefilms). Shilpa had gone on record to state that she had left the show for her character was not given due importance. But when we spoke to Producer Saurabh Tewari, he had a different story to tell. “The graph of Daya Mai was written quite well but at times wrong casting happens. So it was good to part away, I think she was a bad choice for the character.” When we told Shilpa about Saurabh’s take on the issue, she first laughed and then said, “Good for them, I would admit that I was a wrong choice for the character. If I did not fit the bill, then why did they get me on board? I was unhappy playing mother from the first day, they pacified me saying I would play a Godmother character. But the truth is that the writer never paid attention to my role. I don’t want to comment any further as it is all over but I do feel sorry for them.” Strings of animosity linger deep in the hearts of both. Now, as we reported, Pragati Mehra has come in as Shilpa’s replacement. Our source says that one big problem with Shilpa was that she was not looking old enough to be a mother of Satya (Akshay Dogra). The new entry Pragati Mehra fits the ageing character better. Apparently Shilpa also was not comfortable playing mother to a 20 year old. Also the khabru added that Shilpa was playing the urban educated underworld don character with her own thinking. She felt that that powerful lady did not need to scream. While Pragati is doing it the conventional way of yelling out loud. When we spoke to Pragati who was last seen in Uttaran she informed us that she had been approached for the same character back in August when the idea of Daya Mai was first mooted. “But I could not do it then as I was out of country.” When we told her about Shilpa’s unhappiness regarding the growth of the character, she said, “I don’t know what transpired between them but as far as I am concerned the narration now is more or less similar to what I had heard before. Also I am quite aware that Do Dil Ek Jaan is primarily a love story between Antara (Nikita Sharma), Raghu (Ayaz Ahmed) with Satya as the third wheel. Having said that my negative character is also important for she being the mother of Satya and step mother of Raghu plays an important part in influencing in their decisions. I have always been part of ensemble cast (Uttaran) and am happy to part same here as well,” ended she. Well, we hope the dust settles in and the character of Daya Mai entertains viewers!!!
