MUMBAI: Star Plus' one of the most beloved shows - Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is the television industry's second-longest-running Indian television soap opera. 

Produced by Rajan Shahi, it initially starred Hina Khan and Karan Mehra as it's main on-screen lead couple as Akshara and Naitik, who were blessed with 2 kids - an elder son Naksh and a younger daughter Naira.  Once Hina Khan exited the show, the plot's limelight shifted on a grown-up Naira and her husband Kartik's on-screen love story and chemistry, whose characters were portrayed by telly stars, Shivangi Joshi and Mohsin Khan. 

The next-gen lead couple graced the show in 2016 and are still active therein, however through different characters. 

To be honest, the show initially used to focus on family relationships and values which well-served the visual satieties of the Indian viewers for almost 8 years, however, the new theme of importance was obviously Kartik-Naira's 'made-in-heaven' love story, which began setting major goals for the show's audience to believe in the existence of soulmates. This theme helped in elevating and expanding the show's immense popularity amid the Indian youngsters through Kartik-Naira's 'safe haven' and 'sizzling' chemistry.

Within a span of only 4 years (2016-2020), Kartik-Naira's romantic journey was also no less than a roller-coaster ride as their post-marital struggles tested the couple's unity in diversity against time, as they were prone to separation owing to situational crises for over multiple times. Kartik-Naira maintained themselves as the symbol of integrity, unity and love throughout the show who were all about anticipating each other's hidden emotions without the need for expression. Yes, misunderstandings did lure amid them occasionally but when two souls yearn for each other, no repulsive forces can drift them apart no matter what.

The duo combated against local superstitions, societal oppression, serial vamps and even physical hazards together and managed to stay united even without physical proximities at times of situational helplessness.

As shown in the show, a trauma-stricken Naira had fled away from her home to Rishikesh as a teen and grew up into a young woman there itself, the same place where she met her soulmate Kartik for the very first time. Their first meet was never a pleasant one and after a phase of temporary rough patches, the duo empathised with each others' feelings and emotions, which led to their first union - their fairytale-styled grand wedding.

After a phase of leading a happy and prosperous post-marital life, the duo was on the verge of separation through a divorce, owing to family-bred issues and misunderstandings. With the time and temporal union of the duo, with the gradual improvement of situations, it was revealed that Naira is suffering from a brain tumour. To end her misery, Kartik remarries Naira and stayed by her side throughout her medical diagnosis.

With time, Naira manages a major part of the Goenka's business and simultaneously also turns pregnant with Kartik's child, however misunderstandings linger amid them as Kartik feels insecure about Naira's busy routine and even misunderstands and questions about her relationship with their co-worker Mihir.

A heavily disheartened and traumatised Naira fakes her death and flees to Goa. After 5 years, Naira turns a single mother to her 5 y/o son Kairav, while a heartbroken Kartik drowns in despair over a missing Naira over 5 years, who's assumed to be dead. To fill his void, his family urges him to get remarried to another girl while coincidentally, Kartik happens to bond with his estranged son, which prompts their first meeting in Goa. As Kartik heads back to Udaipur, even Naira heads to Udaipur with her son Kairav after 5 years to commence her son's medical diagnosis. As expected, Kartik and Naira meet again through a series of unfortunate events, the worst one been Kartik getting married to Vedika before learning about Naira's existence. 

Their massive fall-out was followed by the breaking of the wall amid them and eventually, Vedika separated herself from Kartik, thus, paving way for Kartik-Naira's union once again with Kairav witnessing his parents' marriage.

With their final union, Naira turns pregnant once again and this time, the duo is blessed with a daughter, who is named after Naira's mother Akshara.

As time flows by, the duo stands against the tests of time stronger than before and defend their kids from extreme atrocities. However, as the whole family heads for a quick Haridwar trip, a fateful incident separates Naira and Kartik forever. The Goenka family face a harsh mishap by the hill cliff and Naira ultimately dies in the accident in her pursuit of saving other's lives. As a disheartened Kartik now takes the full-time responsibilities of both his and Naira's kids, the Goenkas are again eager to get him hitched to another woman, but for the sake of his children's upbringing this time. Owing to the same cause, this time, even Kartik is convinced of marrying another woman as Naira's replacement, only for the well-being of Kairav and Akshara.

This is when Naira's doppelganger Sirat Shekhawat marks her entry, who aspires to be a world-level boxer and worships Mary Kom. However, sparks do fly between Kartik and Sirat as they meet and bond eventually (owing to Kairav's instincts as he sees his mother Naira in her). As the Goenkas get convinced of Kartik-Sirat's alliance, a wild twist is witnessed by all with the entrance of Sirat's former lover Ranveer (played by actor Karan Kundra). It seems like the duo had parted ways owing to certain misunderstandings amid them, which Kartik eventually helps to decode to unite them by placing Ranveer in his place.

Now, a special mention of their ethnic getup through delicately chosen bridal costumes, jewellery and makeup needs a special mention all the way as their each and every single frame oozes off nothing less than royalty, beauty, grandeur and sass, making their every still-shots super alluring and framable! The way Kartik and Naira have impressed their audience by flawlessly twinning and syncing with each other in all types of garments and outfits has left the audience in awe since the very beginning till the present day.
