Since both the movies were released in a gap of 2 years, the logical assumption would be for the fourth installment to come out at the end of 2021. But that looks highly unlikely with the covid-2019 pandemic gripping the world. As of 2020, looks like the film is merely in the early stages. Filmmaker Jake Kasdan explained, “We're just starting to talk about all of that, and the truth is we've barely started (on the film)." Speaking to Collider, he said, “We were just getting into the conversation before this global calamity and we will re-engage it as soon as everybody's settled. We all love working together and we've loved making these."
As for the cast, while the star cast Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black have been major reasons for the success of its films, given the end of The Next Level, they might not have significant roles in the film. However, Danny Glover as Eddie’s friend Milo, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Colin Hanks may return in the sequel.
