5 songs from 2020 on the Indian OTT space that made their way into our hearts in no time

MUMBAI: 2020 was a year that saw us binge-watch like there was no tomorrow. Along with the shows that span a host of diverse genres, many of them gave us a host of memorable songs that either saw us get on the dance floor or hum them as we sipped on a hot cup of coffee. As important as the actors, and the story, music in these originals is now becoming a dominant trend in the Indian OTT space. With the year coming to an end, we list down the top 5 songs of the year from the Indian OTT space that we simply couldn’t get enough of. Safe to say, they struck the right chord, and how! 

1)Labb Par Aaye – Bandish Bandits

Clearly the standout song from the fantastic soundtrack of Bandish Bandits. Sung by Javed Ali, the track takes you to the soothing world of classical music where you think about your loved one and wish that they were right by your side. A special mention goes to Ritwik Bhowmik, the lead actor of the show, on who the song has been picturized. Shot during a live performance where his entire family and his prospective wife is watching, Ritwik’s lip-syncing and body language makes you believe that he’s the one singing the song. 

2)Galliyaan - Bebaakee

It was a love saga that no one had ever seen before. Add to that, the soundtrack of the romantic drama was one that made everyone fall in love with the feeling of being in love. Out of the many calm melodies from the show, Galliyaan, sung brilliantly by Akhil Sachdeva and Asees Kaur, took little or no time to touch the hearts of the audiences with its perfect balance of emotions. Picturized on the love-hate relationship between its two leads Sufiyaan and Kainaat, the lyrics resonated with the longing that the two of them have for each other despite not being together. 

3)Theme song - SCAM 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story

This number proved to all music lovers that you don’t need words to make a song a smash hit. A song that’s groovy to the very core, this title track sets the mood perfectly before each episode as you enter the world of Harshad Mehta. We’ve probably lost count listening to the many versions and remixes of this song. That should tell you everything you needed to know about one of the best theme songs ever seen on the Indian OTT space. 

4)Aise Kyun – Mismatched 

A show made with all heart gave us a song with all heart. Aise Kyun, sung by Anurag Saikia, Raghav Chaitanya, Nikhita Gandhi saw each one of us smile as we watched Rishi (Rohit Suresh Saraf) and Dimple (Prajakta Koli) fall in love with each other. For all you hopeless romantics out there, if there’s a song that you want to listen to with your beloved and smile together, Aise Kyun is that song. 

5)Main Hi Hoon – JL50

Don’t we just love the velvet-like voice of Zubin Nautiyal. And if that wasn’t enough, we had Abhay Deol to kill us with his cute puppy-dog like face. A soothing melody that only sounds better each time you hear it, here’s a song that makes us wish that we heard more and more of Zubin. Shot in the ‘City of Joy’, Main Hi Hoon is a lilting melody that fills us with immense happiness.
