MUMBAI: Alarmed with the prospect of their most awaited movies skipping theatres and going direct to digital, fans of larger-than-life cinema have increasingly begun venting their displeasure and their disagreement on Twitter. As reports gain traction that Ajay Devgn’s highly anticipated war drama Bhuj is planning to opt for a direct-to-digital release, fans took to Twitter to trend the hashtag ‘Boycott Bhuj On OTT’. More than 30k tweets asking the actor to release the movie in theatres only.
Ajay Devgn’s pet project, Bhuj: The Pride of India, may opt for the direct-to-digital route, if sources are to be believed. Bhuj, which stars the delectable pair of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, along with Sonakshi Sinha, is reportedly in talks with Disney Plus Hotstar for release on its platform. The makers are waiting to strike a good deal with the streaming platform.
Bhuj has been directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya. The movie is nowhere complete yet, with some portions still remaining to be shot. The movie is set in the backdrop of the 1972 India-Pakistan war. It features the uplifting story of IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who was in charge of the Bhuj airport during the war. The IAF officer, along with his team, reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of 300 local women.

Of course, an interesting war drama such as Bhuj is best enjoyed on the big screen. But maybe fate and Coronavirus have other plans for the movie.
Fans had earlier trended ‘Laxmmi Bomb in Theatres’, when reports of the Akshay Kumar starrer releasing on OTT were doing the rounds. Their Twitter campaign alas failed to bear fruit, as the movie is finally releasing directly on Disney Plus Hotstar in the coming days.
Let’s see what the fate of Bhuj: The Pride of India is.
