MUMBAI: Amazon Prime Video has delivered some interesting content to the audience during the lockdown. All of us were dependent on OTT platforms to provide us our daily dose of entertainment. Amazon Prime Video is back with a high-octane musical love drama in the form of Bandish Bandits, which released yesterday (4th August). It features Shreya Chaudhary, Ritwik Bhowmik, Naseeruddin Shah, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajesh Tailang, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Atul Kulkarni, and a few others.
The story begins in Jodhpur. Radhe's (played by Ritwik Bhowmik) love for Indian classical music is immense, and he wants to be the best student of his guruji, Pandit Radhemohan Rathod (played by Naseeruddin Shah). Meanwhile, internet sensation Tamanna +played by Shreya Chaudhary) puts in all her effort to complete a song and become famous so that she can fulfill her dream of meeting her idol, Queen Eli.
Radhe is supremely talent and has a poetic voice. He is facing major financial problems in his family, because of which he has to do something to earn big money. Tamanna also needs a big platform to fulfill her dream. They both come together to create a band named Bandish Bandits, a collaboration of Indian classical and pop music. Where this way will lead them makes for an interesting watch, as their way is filled with a lot of twists and turns. Will they succeed in achieving their dreams? Will their love for their music and family change along the way? Well, all these questions have been answered in this series in a beautiful way.
The screenplay is decent enough to hold your attention throughout the series. It does become a little lackluster midway, but the solid acting and amazing background music come to the rescue. The direction by Anand Tiwari is remarkable, and Jodhpur has been covered beautifully.
As this is a musical drama, the music plays a pivotal role. It is given by Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa, and Ehsaan Noorani, and is an absolute delight.

Talking about the acting, Ritwik Bhowmik as Radhe has given his best and this is evident throughout. Shreya Chaudhary as Tamanna is decent. Naseeruddin Shah as Pandit Radhemohan Rathod is the highlight and delivers a brilliant performance. Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang are extremely good. Kunaal Roy Kapur is strictly decent and doesn't have much to offer. Atul Kulkarni deserves a special mention for his never seen before avatar in this series.
Talking about the positive points of the series, it has to be the music, which combines Indian classical and pop. It will make you would want to listen to it again and again. The performances of all the actors are natural and raw. The solid screenplay never lets you down. Jodhpur is very well captured, making the series a visual treat.
The negative points include the length. The 10-episode series, with each episode lasting 35 to 45 minutes, is a little stretched in between. Kunaal Roy Kapur and Meghna Malik are wasted. There is some unnecessary use of abusive language.
Well, overall, this musical drama is worth your time and among the best shows to binge watch right now.
