MUMBAI: In a deeply tragic turn of events, digital content creator Misha Agarwal passed away on 24 April 2025, just days before what would have been her 25th birthday.
The news of her untimely demise has left fans and followers in shock, as tributes continue to pour in across social media.
Initially, the cause of her death had not been disclosed. However, Misha’s family has now broken their silence and released an emotional statement, shedding light on the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking loss.
According to her family, Misha had been silently battling depression for some time, largely triggered by her growing anxiety over her social media presence. Her declining follower count on Instagram reportedly became a source of deep emotional distress.

“Misha had built her entire world around Instagram,” the family shared. “She had one singular goal — to reach one million followers. That dream was so important to her that it was even her phone’s lock screen wallpaper. When she began losing followers, she felt devastated and worthless.”
Her family further revealed that despite their continuous support and reassurances, Misha struggled to see beyond the virtual world she had immersed herself in. “Since April, she had been noticeably low. She would cry often, hug me tightly and say, ‘Jijja, what will I do if my followers decrease? My career will be over.’”
Her loved ones had tried to reassure her, reminding her of her many strengths and accomplishments beyond the digital realm. “We told her she was talented, that she held an LLB degree, and was preparing for PCSJ. We reminded her she could become a judge one day — that she had a bright future beyond Instagram.”
Tragically, Misha was unable to free herself from the weight of social media expectations, and ultimately, the pressure became too much to bear. “Despite all our efforts, she couldn’t see past the numbers. She allowed Instagram to define her self-worth and, heart-wrenchingly, chose to end her life,” the family concluded in their statement.
This devastating loss serves as a stark and urgent reminder of the growing pressures faced by young people in the digital age. While social media can be a powerful platform, it should never become a measure of one’s value or purpose in life.
Misha’s story is a sobering message to all especially the youth that life extends far beyond likes and followers. Real worth lies not in virtual validation, but in one's talents, relationships, and personal growth.
We extend our deepest condolences to Misha’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
