MUMBAI: Director AR Murugadoss's last directorial venture, Darbar, which made it to the big screens on January 9, garnered mixed responses from the audience.
According to the latest report, the critically-acclaimed director is all set to foray into the digital space, but as a producer. Sources say that Murugadoss will bankroll a web series, which will mark actress Vani Bhojan's debut. The untitled series will be directed by one of his erstwhile assistants.
The pre-production work is currently underway and the makers are planning to release it on Hotstar. The series is likely to go on floors in June, post the coronavirus crisis.
Touted to be a women-centric thriller, major portions of it will be shot in Chennai. An official announcement regarding the cast and crew will be made soon. It is also worth mentioning that AR Murugadoss first production venture was his assistant M Saravanan's Engeyum Eppodhum, which was released in 2011.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Murugadoss and actor Vijay are coming together for the sequel of their blockbuster flick, Thuppakki. Kajal Aggarwal is likely to play the female lead.
Vani Bhojan, who made her debut in Tamil cinema with Oh My Kadavule, has a couple of projects in her kitty. She has signed Atharvaa's upcoming film, directed by a debutant.
