MUMBAI: Rocket Boys season 2 starting Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh, and directed by Abhay Pannu was premiered a couple of weeks ago. The show has received a good
response from critics and audiences.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Abhay and spoke to him about when he decided to become a director, actors he wants to work with and more...
When did you decide that you want to become a director and enter the entertainment industry?
Growing up in an Indian family means that you have grown up on cinema. My family loved Indian cinema. I am an engineer by profession, so, when I was in college in
Pune, most of my friends led me to believe that I am a good storyteller. If I make good films they need to be congratulated, and if I make bad films, my friends in
college need to be blamed for what I am doing now because they are the ones who told me that I should go to Mumbai and become a director (laughs). But, the desire to
come to Mumbai and become a director had been there from as long as I can remember, however it materialised when I was in college.
Rocket Boys was about two scientists and spoke about history. But, what kind of stories you look forward to narrate in future?
There were two reasons why I decided to do Rocket Boys; one as it was an Indian story and another it was an untold story. So, I would always want to try and gravitate
towards a story that hasn't been tried and told before. So, I am writing a film that is dystopian and I hope I get to make it and do justice to that world as well.
It’s a story of hope in a dystopian world.
Do you have a list of actors and actresses you want to direct?
Of course, I want to be able to direct every actor in Bollywood or down South everywhere. But, right at the top of the list there are three actors; one is of course
Mr. Shah Rukh Khan, everybody wants to work with him and I would want to take a script to him someday. The other is Hrithik Roshan because I was a huge fan growing up,
so working with him would be great, and Ranbir Kapoor because my mother loves him and she wants me to work with him. The actresses, Alia, Deepika, and Shabana ji.
