MUMBAI: Deepak Dobriyal is one of the most talented actors we have in the industry. From Dabangg 2 to Tanu Weds Manu to Good Luck Jerry to now Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, he has impressed one and all with his performances.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Deepak and spoke to him about the response he has received for Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, experience of working with Dimple Kapadia, and more...
You played the role of a villain in Bholaa and now, again in Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, so what response are you getting for it?
I am getting an amazing response. When Bholaa was released from morning 6, to midnight 1 I was just replying to the messages on Instagram and WhatsApp. So, that was also amazing, and I enjoyed it a lot, and now, for Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo I am getting positive responses. When Covid started, at that time my five films were stalled. So, I started thinking about whether Covid is just behind me, but then I was like I can’t complain as it was happening with everyone. Now, after Covid, people are watching my work, God is giving it to people who have patience.
You have earlier played the role of a villain in many films. But, people mainly know you for your role as Pappi ji in Tanu Weds Manu. So, when you do play a villainous character is it difficult for you to perform?
No, it’s not difficult. My work that people have appreciated is the movies in which there are stars. In Tanu Weds Manu there’s Kangana, Madhavan and Jimmy, in Dabangg 2 there’s Salman bhai, in Omkara and Bholaa there’s Ajay Devgn, and in Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo there’s Dimple ji, so some stars are always there. But, there are some of my works that have not reached the people much and they have not been appreciated. However, this is a reality that my work with stars has been appreciated and because of the reach has been wider. I just thank them that because of them my performance has reached the audiences.
How was your experience of working with Dimple Kapadia?
It’s been amazing. She is a fantastic and a very involved actress. She will be very nice in front of you, but in her mind she will be thinking about her role. Even I am like that; sometimes we behave awkwardly because in our minds we are thinking about our character. I saw innocence in her and hunger as an actor like how to do it and what to do. Also, I saw equality in her; she helped everyone on the set, whoever it was. Our friendship started at Angrezi Medium and it was always a lot of fun to work with her. You can see her dedication in the series, this is her best performance.
