MUMBAI: The Night Manager – Part 1 starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala, which was released in February this year, received a fantastic response. Now, part 2 of the series is all set to premiere soon.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with creator and director of the show, Sandeep Modi and spoke to him about The Night Manager – Part 2, the expectations of the audience and more...
Why was The Night Manager split into two parts?
Anyone who has seen this show will know that this story is a saga and somewhere, I thought that if we can allow the audience to enjoy it a little more, I will be happy. Honestly, I was thinking of a weekly drop rather than a binge-model. That’s where the thought came up and I spoke to the team. They understood what I was looking for, but they believed that the weekly drop might not do justice to it. Hence, we decided to do a split. The duration of the split was slightly different, but I guess there were many logistical factors involved in it. In fact, even as we speak, I am still in the middle of a hectic VFX for the finale episode. So, I am actually happy that we got the opportunity to try to better our work and see if we can match up to the standards set by not just the first part, but also the expectations of the audience.

The first part received a fantastic response. Do you feel a pressure as the audience would expect part 2 to be equally good or better than part 1?
The pressure is half from the first time because the audience already loves the show. I am genuinely confident of the last few episodes and the finale that's coming up. I feel, we have something which gives us a lot of joy and pride to bring to the audiences and I hope it fulfils whatever expectations they have. I know that the bar is set high with the first four episodes, but I am confident that we will match and even exceed the expectations.
How difficult is it to adapt a show?
There are many joys and benefits of the adaptation and yet, there are many pitfalls of it. I remember the first time I was looking at an adaptation; I was looking down at the idea of adaptation. When Ram (Madhvani) approached me to adapt Penoza into Aaryan, I had just finished the National Award winning film, Chumbak. I was about to make something original and this came up to me. I remember, Ram said that an adaptation gives you an opportunity to look at a plot in a different timeline, scenario in today’s world and any choice of world that you can fit in. I remember watching a Malayalam film which was adapted from Shakespeare into a regular Malayali household. So, the adaptation rules and ethos are most important and once you do that, it can actually gives you a lot of joy.
The Night Manager – Part 2 will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on 30th June, 2023.
