MUMBAI: The son of film director David Dhawan, Varun Dhawan began his work in the film industry as an assistant director to Karan Johar on the drama film My Name Is Khan and subsequently made his acting debut in 2012 with KJo's teen drama Student of the Year. He rose to prominence with romantic comedies Main Tera Hero (2014), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017); action comedies Dilwale (2015), Dishoom (2016), and Judwaa 2 (2017); the dance film ABCD 2 (2015); and the drama film Sui Dhaaga (2018).
Now, amidst reports about him foraying into the digital medium with the Indian spin-off of the action-packed American spy series 'Citadel' starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, he spoke about his OTT debut.
"I love it (the platform). Something big and interesting is coming. But it won't be released this year. I am excited about it," he said, without divulging details. Priyanka was filming for the series in London. The production is being directed by 'Avengers: Endgame' filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo.
He said that he is excited about the release of his films. "Films are back and I have 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' and 'Bhediya' coming. We have had a great time working on these two films," he said. The actor is also looking forward to his collaboration with an award show.
He said he is looking forward to meeting his fans, with whom he would often interact in person during the pandemic.
"First time, I got time during the lockdown to meet and talk to a few fans, otherwise, it was about taking a selfie and all of that. I want to have a relationship with my fans where I can talk to them, understand what is happening in their life and family," he said.
Like his superstar mentors such as megastar Amitabh Bachchan, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, he would like to have a personal connection with his fans.
"Eventually the high of fame can be felt for the initial six or eight years but after that what? It should be about touching people's hearts. Like, how Amitabh Bachchan sir meets or greets his fans outside his house (every Sunday), it is all about having a personal connection with your fans."
Varun was last seen in David Dhawan’s Coolie No 1 where he starred alongside Sara Ali Khan. Varun Dhawan will next be seen in the film Jug Jugg Jeeyo, co-starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Prajakta Koli. He will also be seen in Bhedia with Kriti Sanon.
