MUMBAI: Amazon MX Player, Amazon’s free streaming service, brings the streets of 90s Mumbai alive with First Copy, a series that dives into the world of film piracy, ambition, and the complicated lives caught in between. As Arif rises in notoriety, his love story quietly unfolds with Afreen, a role essayed by Ashi Singh, who brings depth to the stillness.
Talking about her first scene with Munawar Faruqui, Ashi recalled just how chaotic and unexpectedly smooth it all was. She said, “We’d only met once during the look test — no readings, no prep. On shoot day, I was in makeup, he had just wrapped something else, and it was honestly chaotic. But then we got into the scene, and it just worked so naturally and smoothly.”
What followed was a series of small, candid moments that broke the tension. “Munawar is very unpredictable. Once during a break, he did this little mehendi design on my hand completely randomly! I still have that video.”
Reflecting on the energy on set, she added, “There are so many talented people in this series, some I hadn’t worked with before but the energy on set was amazing. And Munawar may seem reserved, but when the camera rolls, he’s so present. That makes all the difference.”
First Copy is now streaming for free on Amazon MX Player. Catch it on the MX Player app, Amazon’s shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, and Airtel Xtreme.
