MUMBAI: Richa Chadha is one of the most talented and underrated actresses of Bollywood. She has given breathtakingly flawless performances in films like Fukrey, Gangs of Wasseypur, Sarbjit, Masaan and many more. The actress is all set to be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix series Heeramandi.
Richa who plays the role of Lajjo has revealed that she took inspiration from late actress Meena Kumari for her character. Richa took inspiration for the role of the captivating persona of the courtesan Lajjo from Meena Kumar’s Shahibjaan in the timeless Hindi classic Pakeezah.
Richa said, “Carefully observing, learning from and taking lessons from Meena Kumariji's character in Pakeezah was a truly enriching and deeply transforming experience for me ahead of shooting for Heeramandi. In the movie Paakezah, Meena Kumari's character has a certain tragic depth and complexity that resonated with Lajjo, the character I play in the show. I worked on voice and diction while studying Meenaji's work, sometimes to the point of imitation. I felt like I was walking in the footsteps of a cinematic legend, and it was an honour to pay tribute to Meena Kumariji through my portrayal of Lajjo.”
Sharing the trailer of the series, Bhansali Productions wrote, “In the glittering, regal halls of Shahi Mahal, romance and revolution clash in silence...Sanjay Leela Bhansali's sweeping saga of love, loss and liberation - Heeramandi: The Diamond bazaar..Trailer out now!”
