The film won Best Film Audience Choice Award at South Asian Film Festival 2019, presented by HBO.
Earlier, Khan told Republic World: “The LGBTQ community is very close to my heart. Many of my friends belong to this community and I know the kind of things that they go through. Though Section 377 has been approved by our government and we have the freedom now but still, I think it will take some time for our family to accept this. The film Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele is a very sensitive subject which shows the struggle of the LGBTQ community but in a very fun manner.”
Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele is the latest film to opt for a digital release as lockdown restrictions force viewers to sit at home.
The likes of Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi and Ghoomketu have already gone digital while Laxmmi Bomb, Ludo and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl are touted to follow suit.
