MUMBAI: Sony Liv is giving tough competition to many other OTT platforms. They are giving series and movies that are high on content and are being loved by the audiences all over the globe. Some example are Your Honor, Kadakh, and Ram Singh Charlie. Now, a thriller titled JL 50 has released, which features Abhay Deol, Pankaj Kapoor, Ritika Anand, Piyush Mishra, and a few others.
The story is set in West Bengal, where a mysterious incident takes place. A crashed plane is found, but as per all the records, this particular plane took off 35 years ago. But the strange part is that the plane crashed a week ago. The incident shocks CBI officer Shantanu, played by Abhay Deol, who takes forward the investigation with his partner and best friend CBI Officer Gourango, played by Rajesh Sharma. Well, what is the story behind this mysterious incident? The answers to all these questions lie in this investigative story.
The screenplay of the series is brilliant and never allows you to take away your eyes from the screen. But in episodes 3 and 4, there are some scenes that you may feel not required. The direction of the series is decent and the location is beautifully covered. The city of Kolkata has been captured pretty well in the series.

Talking about the performances, Abhay Deol as a CBI officer was amazing in the series and looked quite appealing. Pankaj Kapoor as Professor Das takes the limelight whenever he appears on screen and has delivered a terrific performance yet again. Piyush Mishra wins hearts again with his never seen before avatar, and Rajesh Sharma and Ritika Anand too are decent in their parts.
The positive points of the series are the mysterious way of storytelling, and the crafting of the suspense and thrill in every scene, which will build more and more excitement and curiosity in the audiences. The raw and strong performances by the leads is the strongest reason to binge this series, because we see them in a never seen before role in a very curious set up.
The negative points of the series are that in a few portions, the screenplay lacks a bit, but the solid acting by the leads comes tobyour rescue.
Overall, this four-episode series, with each episode lasting around 30 minutes, manages to hold your attention in this journey of thrill, suspense, and mystery.
