MUMBAI: Prime Video’s latest Original, G20, plunges viewers into a world where global politics meets explosive action. The film is centered around Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis’s Danielle Sutton, the President of the USA, who finds herself at the heart of a geopolitical crisis when a G20 Summit is hijacked and the world’s top leaders are held hostage. The much-awaited action thriller is mounted on a grand scale, but unbeknownst to many, it found an unexpected ally in celebrated actor and filmmaker, Tyler Perry. Viola’s husband, Julius Tennon, who also serves as the film’s producer, credits Tyler’s “timely support” for saving them nearly seven figures on production costs.
One of G20’s biggest – and the costliest – action sequences hinged on ‘The Beast,’ an armored military vehicle disguised as a luxury limousine, which goes wherever the U.S. president travels. But building a custom version of the iconic vehicle for the film came with a hefty price tag. That’s where Tyler Perry swooped in and saved the day for the makers by lending them two custom Beasts from his series, The Oval. After learning that Tyler had commissioned two replica Beasts for The Oval, Viola and Julius reached out to him. “Tyler was gracious enough to loan us those cars,” recalled Julius.
Expressing his gratitude to Tyler, he added, “He put them on a cargo ship and sent them to South Africa, and it was much, much more cost-effective. So, thank you, Tyler Perry. Had it not been for his timely support, the production would’ve taken a seven-figure hit.”.
For the unversed, Tyler Perry has previously collaborated with Viola Davis for his hit franchise, Madea Goes to Jail. Both celebrities have often publicly expressed their admiration for each other to support the African-American community in the country. Although Tyler was not part of G20’s production team, his support behind the scenes added serious weight to Viola’s latest film, proving that his influence extends far beyond the spotlight.
Directed by Patricia Riggen, G20 is headlined by Viola Davis, along with Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Christopher Farrar, and Antony Starr in key roles. Produced by Andrew Lazar, Viola Davis, and Julius Tennon, the film is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, MRC, Mad Chance Productions, and JuVee Productions.. G20 premiered on April 10 and is now available to stream in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, only on Prime Video.
