MUMBAI : Walt Disney Animation Studios is set to take audiences back to the enchanting world of Motunui in Moana 2. The highly anticipated sequel picks up where the first film left off, showcasing Moana returning home from a three-day journey, only to discover a mysterious object that holds the key to an ancient island with "angry gods." This newfound discovery sets the stage for a perilous quest as Moana embarks on a mission to break the curse and reconnect with her people. Joining her on this epic adventure is the ever-reliable Maui, who once again teams up with Moana to face an unknown threat. The film reunites Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. Moana 2 is directed by Dave Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller with music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. The film is set to release in India on November 29, 2024 and will be available in English and Hindi.
The early box office predictions are in and as per international sources, the film is all set to break multiple records looking to do $100 million-plus over its Wednesday through Sunday opening during Thanksgiving week as per tracking service Quorum. This would be the biggest opening for a movie opening on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, a record that currently belongs to Disney’s 2013 Frozen with $93.5M (Frozen 2 opened the Friday before Thanksgiving).
Moana 2’s predicted success would make 2024 a big year for Disney as the studio continues to break records at the global box office. Inside Out 2 that released earlier this year, emerged to become the highest grossing film of the year and the all time highest earning animated film.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 premieres in theatres in India in English and Hindi from November 29, 2024.
