MUMBAI: Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented actors we have in the industry and he has also been a part of many successful films. However, 2023 hasn’t been a great year for him because Afwaah and Jogira Sara Ra Ra failed to make a mark at the box office. The actor however has impressed with his recently released film Haddi where he plays the role of a transgender.

Interestingly, Nawazuddin lived in a neighborhood in Delhi 2 decades ago that was largely populated by transgenders and that’s how he drew inspiration for his character Harika. He told a news portal, “They have a loud personality. They talk in a higher volume. They shriek when they are crying.” HE added, “I didn’t want to perform in a subdued way in this. I didn’t want to make it Hollywood-ian. We watch that and it corrupts us. They have different emotions, they have a different life. We have a different life.”

The Sacred Games actor further continued, “I didn’t want to go in that zone. There are other movies I can do in that zone, where I have to give a subdued performance, where I will cry and you wont realise that I’m crying. This performance is big, that’s how the character is.”
Actor/filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who is also a part of Haddi spoke about Nawaz saying, “He’s also an extremely misjudged and misconstrued person. Also because of whatever it is… the world sees you for many things. He is a guy who doesn’t defend himself, he always stays silent. He never… he rarely stands up to something, out of love or whatever reasons it is or out of awkwardness. But when he does, it really makes a difference but most often than not, he does not. But I know him really well inside out so I have a very special place for him in my heart."
