MUMBAI: Stateless is inspired from real-life incident of a permanent resident of Australia, Cornelia Rau, who was detained by the Australian Government under its mandatory detention programme.

The show focuses on the life of four completely unrelated individuals, an escapee, a refuge, an office worker, and a bureaucrat who find themselves in the middle of a crossroad in an immigration detention centre. Created by Cate Blanchett, Tony Ayres, and Elise McCredie, the show expands on larger themes of humanity, justice, peace, and belongingness.

The six-episode series has been produced by Sheila Jayadev and Paul Ranford and features Yvonne Strahovski, Fayssal Bazzi, Jai Courtney and Asher Keddie. Directed by Emma Freeman and Jocelyn Moorhouse, Stateless was initially launched on ABC in March 2020.

Netflix’s updated content slate has ensured that the audience is continuously engaged with its unique curation. From comedies like Feel the Beat to horrors like Bulbbul, from quarantine anthologies like Home Stories to docu-originals like Lenox Hill, Netflix has managed to accommodate different tastes in content and bring it under a single umbrella for diverse audiences.

Australian web series Stateless starts streaming on Netflix from July 8.
