Post his visit, Narendra Modi tweeted, "Paid homage at Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak in Mumbai. Veer Savarkar epitomizes courage and unwavering dedication to our nation. He was a prolific writer, scholar, and thinker as well. We will leave no stone unturned in building the India he dreamt of."
Savarkar is one of India's most influential yet controversial figures in the struggle for independence and yet very little is known or written about him in popular culture. He is infact the originator of ‘Hindutva’ and ‘Akhand Bharat’ and the inspiration behind great leaders and freedom fighters like Netaji, Bhagat Singh and Khudi Ram Bose. The film, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar narrates Savarkar's story solely from his perspective, fearlessly embracing his ideals and beliefs that were initially contentious but eventually found their way into the fabric of modern India. The current leaders of the country including PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are followers and admirers of Veer Savarkar’s ideals on Hindutva and were recently seen paying tribute to the iconic revolutionary during their visit to Mumbai. For those who are curious to know more about Savarkar should watch the biographical film, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar which will premiere on ZEE5 on 28th May.
