MUMBAI: Ahead of the highly anticipated release of The Waking of a Nation on March 7th on Sony LIV, renowned filmmaker Ram Madhvani has shared a moment of personal reflection with his followers. The National Award-winning and International Emmy-nominated director recently visited Amritsar, the city where the seeds of the series were sown, to seek blessings at the Golden Temple.
The historical thriller, The Waking of a Nation, tells the gripping tale of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and the subsequent Hunter Commission that sought to investigate the tragedy. The series delves into the heartbreaking events of April 1919, raising poignant questions about whether the massacre was a deliberate conspiracy.
After five years of bringing this compelling story to life, Ram Madhvani, alongside co-producer Amita Madhvani, visited Amritsar not only to pay homage but also to revisit key locations integral to the filming. Among the landmarks they explored were the Gobindgarh Fort and Kucha Korianwalla, where General Dyer issued the infamous "crawling order."
With the release of The Waking of a Nation fast approaching, Ram Madhvani’s visit to Amritsar reflects his deep respect for the historical significance of the story and the spiritual connection he shares with the city. His journey captures the essence of a filmmaker who blends reverence for history with a passion for storytelling, making the upcoming series all the more compelling.
As excitement builds for the series, the visit stands as a testament to the profound journey Madhvani and his team have embarked upon in bringing this harrowing chapter of India’s history to the screen.
