MUMBAI: Ranveer Allahbadia, better known as BeerBiceps has become a pretty established podcast channel on Youtube. It sort of became a trendsetter for podcasts and gave light to a lot of lesser but vital personalities who came on the show and talked about all sorts of topics which attracted a huge amount of viewers.

On the other hand, there’s Samay Raina who is infamous for his comedy, be it stand-up comedy acts or his appearances on other channels. Samay Raina’s new show ‘India’s Got latent’ has been making a lot of noise on social media from the time of its inception.

Yes, there are people in the audience who love to listen to his comedy but there are also those who are against it as they feel the jokes are inappropriate. However, they are all opinions and the show is still doing great in terms of viewership.

In the latest episode, there were Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia which was seen as a major collaboration but things didn’t turn out as expected. Since Sunday late night, social media has been flooded with people talking about the episode, specifically Ranveer Allahbadia’s question to a contestant which was - “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”

Now actor, producer and creative director Sandiip Sickand gave his two cents on the matter and said, “So I have seen a few episodes of Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. Some of the episodes are really funny and they are really good but I must say you know a lot of the episodes have a lot of foul and let me add, crassy foul language and also a lot of derogatory remarks, making fun of a lot of things which normally should be handled sensitively. So I don’t think it needs to be banned but I think the makers should definitely exercise certain amount of self control and they should always remember that our country has freedom of speech but along with freedom of speech we all have a responsibility as to what we are saying, just as we have the freedom of protecting ourselves and that does not mean you go take a gun and kill everybody that comes your way. So with every liberty that we have there is a responsibility and the problem is when we just want to enjoy the liberty and not live up to the responsibilities that go with it and I think that is the problem with ‘India’s Got Latent’. They have just gone a rampage and I think that needs to be curtailed for sure. Yes, the backlash against BeerBiceps is absolutely justified because I also heard his apology speech where he said that ‘I probably don’t know comedy’. I would like to tell him that what he said was not comedy, it was not even humorous, it was nothing. It was just disgusting and derogatory, and absolutely offensive. I don’t understand how come the person on stage go up to them and slap these people? I mean if someone would have tried to say that to me I would’ve just gone up and slapped the person. Over here you know we have another problem also that people who tolerate this kind of nonsense are too desperate to be on a show and so desperate to just be famous that they tolerate any crap and any nonsense. As I said, that contestant could’ve just walked off the show or should’ve just slapped them saying this is not the way you talk so I think what BeerBiceps have done, I’m honestly very surprised because I have seen a few podcasts of him and I was really surprised for hi to say something so disgusting. The state of stand-up in our country, well there are some very good stand-ups, there is Harsh Gujral, then there is Kapil Sharma, they do very good comedy which is absolutely not derogatory, not vulgar, not cheap, not dirty at all and such comedy differently works there’s Zakir, who I think is fantastic. So the problem what is happening is that people just want to be overnight famous and they say that, you know they feel that we can use abusive language and talk shit and talk crap and get automatically famous, that is happening but today we are seeing that their is also a flip side to it. SO I think as long as we can keep our stand-up comedies to wit, to humour, to correct timing, to talk-able issues, I think comedy really really works...you really don’t need to go down these gutter routes that these people have gone down to.”
