MUMBAI: Sai Tamhankar is one of the most celebrated actresses in Marathi and Hindi cinema. In 2025, she topped IMDb’s Top 10 Most Popular Stars list in February, surpassing several Bollywood heavyweights—a testament to her immense popularity and fan following. Known for her expressive performances and versatility, Sai has consistently impressed audiences across genres.

She has had a packed year with a range of compelling projects. Her Hindi film Ground Zero, released in April alongside Emraan Hashmi, showcased her in a gripping action thriller. In Marathi cinema, she starred in the comedy Gulkand, which premiered on May 1 and earned praise for its charm and her effortless comic timing. She also features in the mystery thriller The Secret of the Shiledars on JioHotstar, and crime drama Crime Beat on ZEE5. Additionally, she stars in Manvat Murders, a Marathi series on SonyLIV.
In an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, Sai Tamhankar opened up about her fears, anxiety and struggles that she tackled to her way up top. The actress opened up her interesting journey to Hindi and Marathi Cinema.
Sai Tamhankar said, “Bohot hi interesting safar raha hai, main jab school mein thi, humari ek family friend hai, unhone mujhe ek play mein kaam karne ke liye poocha and I said yes. Although I did not know even an ‘A’ of acting maine ha boldi. Woh play karne ke baad mujhe aisa laga ki maine itni shiddat se aaj tak koi cheez kari hi nahi hai so it was something very new for me, the emotion, the feeling was very new. Wohi jo humari mausi hai, unhone humare family friend se kahan ki ab agli baar jab play karogi na tab mujhe bolna, main check karna chahti thi ki yeh feeling barkarar rahegi ya change ho jayegi. Thankfully change nahi hua, and I think that time I knew ki shayad isko main apne profession ke hisaab se dekh sakti hoon. Aur second play karne ke baad mujhe ussi play mein best actress ka award mila aur saath hi mein, ek Marathi serial ka offer mila.”
Highlighting the timeline of events, Sai informed that the offer came to her while she was in college, first year. She said that during her first play she was in 10th grade and during her second play she was in 12th grade. She took the Marathi serial and came to Mumbai.
Her growing body of work continues to strengthen her standing as a dynamic and respected performer in Indian entertainment.
