MUMBAI: Prime Video’s Citadel: Honey Bunny is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated spy thrillers, offering a gritty, raw, and action-packed glimpse into the world of espionage. The recently released trailer has sparked global excitement, giving fans a thrilling preview of intense stunts and hand-to-hand combat. Their high-energy action scenes promise edge-of-the-seat thrills, setting the stage for an adrenaline-packed experience. Adding to the show’s unique appeal, Samantha praised the decision to set the series in the 90s, calling it a brilliant move and shared how it brings authenticity to the series.
Samantha shares, “It’s not gimmicky and full of high-tech gadgets and technology. The world that is created is so real. The characters are genuinely relatable—ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances. That drew me in immediately. I also believe it was a brilliant move to set the show in the nineties. Everything about this world feels authentic. By choosing the 90s as the backdrop, there’s a greater dependence on human capabilities rather than on gadgets. It’s more about human wit and hand-to-hand combat, resulting in a very raw experience. When you think of a spy film, high-tech gadgets and fancy technology often come to mind, but those elements can overshadow emotions and character arcs. This approach makes it more exciting for an actor. I think this is a very original way of doing things, completely different from the norm. It was an original idea, and I truly believe it was the best decision for the show.”
Produced by D2R Films and Amazon MGM Studios, Citadel: Honey Bunny is directed by Raj & DK and executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes from AGBO, alongside David Weil (Hunters) overseeing the series and all productions within the Citadel universe. Midnight Radio also serves as an executive producer. The series stars the dynamic Varun Dhawan alongside Samantha in the lead, with an exceptional ensemble cast featuring Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar. Citadel: Honey Bunny premieres exclusively on Prime Video on November 7, reaching audiences in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
