Sharmin Segal reveals about taking notes from Meena Kumari in Pakeezah to play Alamzeb in Heeramandi
MUMBAI: Actress Sharmin Segal who played the role of Alamzeb in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been in the spotlight for her emotionless performance. Netizens have been trolling and criticizing Sharmin for her performance in Heermandi.

Well, in an interview Sharmin Segal claimed that she watched Meena Kumari's Pakeezah 16 times to evoke a similar emotion in her performance as Alamzeb. Sharmin was inspired by Meena Kumari's acting in Pakeezah (1972).
Sharmin Segal talks about how she prepared for her role in the Netflix series and told ETimes that she trained in dance and diction. She even praised Bhansali for elevating the material with his personal signature touch. Sharmin even said that she tried watching Pakeezah 15-16 times, but took a while to get through it as it was unlike anything she’d seen before. Sharmin said that Meena Kumari was one of her inspirations and she also highlighted the nothingness of her performance.

Sharmin said that human beings possess a multitude of emotions and said that she is grateful that audiences are noticing her. She also said that she is happy to have received the opportunity. She even claimed that it is one thing for parents to say good job. The show also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, and Fardeen Khan, among others.
