MUMBAI:We all must have read about Shreegauri Sawant who is a transgender activist. But, do you know about her journey? Do you know how Ganesh became Gauri? Well, that’s what Jio Cinema’s series Taali does; it takes us through the difficult journey of Shreegauri Sawant.

Taali is about Ganesh who since childhood wants to become a mother. He wants to take care of kids, cook for them, and other things. As Ganesh is feminine, he faces bullying in school and of course by people around. His father, who is a police officer, is not happy with Ganesh’s behavior, so the latter runs away from his house in Pune and shifts to Mumbai. How does Ganesh become Gauri? How does she fight for their identity, survival, and equality? All these things are shown in Taali.

The series is written by Kshitij Patwardhan and directed by Ravi Jadhav. The writing as well as the narration is quite good. There are some scenes that will give you goosebumps and some will make your eyes moist as it is difficult to see the way transgenders are treated.

There are some points where the series loses its grip, but what saves it is the excellent performance of Sushmita Sen. The actress has nailed it and has clearly given the best performance of her career. Yes, it’s undoubtedly better than Aarya. Sen should be ready to take awards for her amazing performance in Taali!

The supporting cast of the film is also quite good. Actors like Suvrat Joshi, Krutika Deo (young Ganesh), Ankur Bhatia, and Sheetal Kale support very well.

Also, Amitraj’s music is damn good. The background score is just perfect and haunting at the same time.

Overall, Taali is a well-made series and Sushmita Sen with her fantastic performance takes it many notches higher.

Ratings: 3.5/5
